High School Crush

What where you expecting, because you won best couple in secondary school, you thought it was enough to advance into a serious relationship. If we were all smart in secondary as we are now, we would have told ebuka and kelechi to grow up. But we celebrated their false partnership.

Everyday was another day for ebuka and kelechi to raise shoulders, no day you won’t see them arriving school together, leaving together, eating together. To the height of it ebuka would rather be flogged in place of kelechi. Is this what love is, of course I believed what did I know, i was terrible in chemistry so how can I determine the right feelings of two people.

After a while, it became a frenzy everybody wanted to be a power couple, some had to settle for less just to be popular. As for me, I just sat back and drool in sadness, I wasn’t much of a talker but if I had sense then like now, I would have told everybody in that class how stupid they were. Time passed on till V.S, I had to admit that day was fun for all, I didn’t mind EbuChi and their couple behaviour, it’s allowed. But they had other plans.

I noticed ebuka and kelechi were not on the dancing floor as the rest of us, I don’t know what pushed me, I went looking for them. I went to the second floor, walked pass 3 classes, it was quiet but the noise from outside echoed through. The next turn were staircase leading up and down, I went up, then I heard what could possibly be the screeching sound of a chair, someone was up here, I reduced my steps, I was sneaky. What I saw next was probably every teenagers desire, ebuka was buckling his belt, kelechi was adjusting her skirt, I was no fool to know what had just happened.

How lucky ebuka was, expecting a cheerful act from the two, there wasn’t, I looked at them both as they walked together towards the gate, never once did kelechi look into ebuka eyes, ebuka tried grabbing kelechi arm but she shrugged off. I don’t know if they ever saw again but I doubt they would.

It was at that moment I knew I wasn’t going to build my relationship based of people’s approval. If it didn’t feel right, people’s approval won’t matter.
